1. Tan Tock Seng Hospital was founded by Mr Tan Tock Seng (1798-1850). It was first located at Pearl’s Hill at upper cross street which then moved to a site near Balestier/Serangoon Road and then moved again to the Jalan Tan Tock Seng Old Tan Tock Seng Hospital location. The current Tan Tock Seng Hospital is situated opposite the Old Tan Tock Seng Hospital. The old Tan Tock Seng Hospital off Moulmein Road used to serve the public from 1909 to 1999 and is now abandoned.
Mr Tan Tock Seng first donated $5000 to build the first premise hospital. Subsequently other philanthropists like Tan Kim Cheng (son of Tan Tock Seng), Gan Eng Seng, Syed Allie Bin Mohammed Aljunied, Ong Kim Wee and Loke Yew also donated money for the hospital development.
During the World War 2, it was named “Hakuai Byoin” meaning “Universal Love Hospital” and was taken over by the Japanese for military use.
2. At Block 27 Kim Keat Avenue, there is a unique dinosaur themed playground which was designed by Hong Hai Environmental Art Private Limited. This park consists of a huge brown tyrannosaurus, a baby tyranosaurus and a stegosaurus shaped platform. Unlike other playground, it does not have any swings, slides or monkey bars.
3. At block 85 Whampoa Drive, lies a beautifully carved slender 4 meter tall dragon fountain built in early 70s. The body of the dragon is made of porcelain and the dragon looks as if it is about to soar into the sky. However, the fountain has stopped functioning for years if not it will be quite a magnificent sight.
